Farmers' Markets in Wright County

All Summer at four locations

Clarion FMWednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are Farmers' Markets each week in Wright County, beginning the first part of June and ending the later part of September or mid-October, depending on the produce season. Look for a colorful array of fresh garden produce, baked goods, plants and flowers, meats and eggs.

Beginning the first week in June, Farmers' Market return to Dows (maybe begin in mid-May depending on garden harvest season) at their City Park on Wednesdays from 5 - 6 p.m. each week. The Belmond area Market takes the stage next on Thursdays at the Belmond City Park between 3 - 6:30 p.m. The final Farmers' Market each week is Clarion's, located on the west side of the Courthouse Square on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon. Free Fishing Days in Iowa

Friday - Saturday, June 3rd - 5th

Annually, Iowa's Department of Natural Resources allows Iowa residents to fish without the need of an Iowa fishing license. The free fishing weekend for 2011 is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 3, 4, and 5. Enjoy some fishing at its finest at one of Wright County's lakes or rivers. The event is held the first weekend in June each year. All fishing rules and regulations must be obeyed.

 

 

32nd Annual Clarion's Festival in the Park

Saturday & Sunday -- June 11th – 12th

Each year on the second Saturday in June, Clarion celebrates a day of music called Festival in the Park.  This year's theme is "Engines a Revin' in 2011" and 50's and 60's being featured. The day starts with the annual pancake breakfast and 5K run, followed by the parade.  After the parade, the food booths and craft booths open and the entertainment begins; don't forget the exhibit of area muscle cars.  With several music groups and inflatable rides for the kids your family will surely enjoy the day.  One of the entertainers is Richie Lee, featuring his hour-long Buddy Holly tunes. Eagle Grove's ALL SCHOOL REUNION

Friday - Sunday, June 17 - 19

Eagle Grove will celebrate in 2011 with its 'All School Reunion" with the bulk of the celebration held on Saturday, June 18. Alumni can enjoy live music all day, food vendors, interactive activities such as bathtub races, free inflatables and carnival for the kid,evening street dance, beer garden. Independence Day Fun at Lake Cornelia

Every 4th of July weekend (the Saturday closest to Independence Day, this year Saturday, July 2), the association celebrates with a pancake breakfast at the enclosed shelter house, a boat parade in the evening which is followed by fireworks.

Other sponsored events include:  an annual garage sale around the lake - Saturday, June 4 (first Saturday in June); Progressive Dinner - July 22; BBQ Cook Off - Saturday, August 13; and Bingo & Pot Luck - Saturday, September 10.

 

Belmond's Independence Day Celebration

Saturday - Monday, July 2 - 4

There is no better place to be than in Belmond on the 4th of July weekend! From the 'Firecracker Run' until the final fireworks display late on the 4th, there is plenty activities and events for all ages in all area of the town. Enjoy the great parade and a wonderful meal in the City Park, games and planned activities, a pie and ice cream social, and an evening meal.

You definitely won't want to miss the entertaining evening grandstand show and the drawing for prizes. The fireworks ground display built to coincide with each year's them has been promoted as one of the largest and most creative fireworks show in the State of Iowa. The Wright County Fair Board along with Manager, Tricia Rosendahl, invites everyone to the district-wide fair in Eagle Grove. The fair boasts a very long-standing tradition of excellence with a program that is both educational and entertaining. Organizers continually work on perfecting the plans to make each year the most outstanding Fair that this county and adjoining counties have ever sponsored and attended. The Wright County Fair Board feels it is because of the strong support that we receive from our youth, youth leaders, sponsors and all the fine people who attend the Fair each year.

 

Mark your calendars now; you don’t want to miss it. The Fair hosts outstanding 4-H and FFA livestock shows, welcome a well-known Iowa based carnival, schedule a full slate of Free Stage acts, arrange two full buildings of Commercial vendors, invite many food vendors with unforgettable menus, and provide entertainment in the grandstand for three full nights just to name a few. Dows Corn Days

Friday - Sunday, August 5 - 7

The tradition continues in Dows with its three-day celebration:  Dows Corn Days. This year's dates are Friday - Sunday, August 5 - 7. Some of the events and activities include:  Friday evening entertainment in City Park; Saturday morning 5K race, breakfast, and 10 a.m. parade; following the parade, return to the City Park for all day entertainment, rides for the kids, corn on the cob, ice cream and watermelon - all for a $5 button. Sunday morning is the community worship service, in the City Park, which concludes the celebration. All of the buildings in the Dows Historical District are open for tours and includes a working blacksmith demonstration. Contact is Brian Butt (515)-852-4151.

 

Fountain City Days - Goldfield

Saturday & Sunday, August 6 & 7

Each year, Goldfield celebrates its heritage with its community "Fountain City Days". Some of the events and activities include:  food booths, ice cream making contest, a duck run, a tractor rodeo, kids' games. Parade is 4 p.m. The Commercial Club sponsors a FREE supper in the downtown city park on Saturday evening, complete with LIVE entertainment. 21st Annual Prairie Homestead Craft & Antique Power Show

This year the power show will feature the National USA Plowing Contest on Friday and Saturday. The winner will go to the international contest which will be held in Croatia!

The power show event highlights many of the early farm equipment and farming practices, used in an era years ago. Some featured activities are oat threshing, quilting, butter making, apple pressing, cook baking, and sausage making. There are also tinsmith demonstrations, rope making, woodcarving, and poetry. Visitors have ample opportunities to observe antique farm equipment in action. Horse drawn equipment is among the many demonstrations.

Other activities include a corn maze, craft and art show, blacksmith shop, sawmill, one-room schoolhouse, petting zoo and children's play area. There is something for everyone who attends! Belmond's Dog Day Triathlon

Saturday, August 20

The Dog Day Triathlon will celebrate its 13th year on Saturday, August 20th. The race starts at Belmond's Swimming Pool Park, 908 First Street S.E., at 7:30 a.m. and includes a three-mile run, a ten-mile bike ride, and a 160 meter swim. Heartland

Saturday, September 17

Heartland MuseumHeartland Museum, 119 - 9th Street S.W. in Clarion, hosts its annual Fall Festival, this year on Saturday, September 17 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The theme varies each year, as does the entertainment and exhibits. A meal is included at noon; exhibits help visitors learn of the history of the Wright county area and the way area residents lived in the past.

Wright County's WinterFest

Saturday, February 4, 2012 - Lake Cornelia Park

Lake Cornelia's WinterFest is celebrated the first Saturday of each February, regardless of winter weather. Activities and events are FREE.

Included are such things as showshoeing, ice skating, cross-country skiing, kite flying, horse drawn sleigh and wagon rides. No skis or snowshoes? No problem, they are provided!
